These wetlands are historic overwintering habitats for millions of migratory shorebirds and waterfowl. If these habitats are impacted by oil-ladened water, the habitats expanded by farmers through this initiative will provide thebirds high quality alternative wetlands on which to overwinter.” (Don Gohmert, State Conservationist, Texas)

The purpose of Coastal Plains Soil and Water Conservation District is to encourage all landowners within its boundaries to voluntarily cooperate with the district in planning and applying conservation programs on non-agricultural land as well as agricultural land.
