Migratory Bird Habitat Initiative News Release

Migratory Bird Habitat Initiative Map

"While Texas has not yet been impacted, we know our coastal wetlands are at risk especially as we move towards the peak of hurricane season. These wetlands are historic overwintering habitats for millions of migratory shorebirds and waterfowl. If these habitats are impacted by oil-ladened water, the habitats expanded by farmers through this initiative will provide the birds high quality alternative wetlands on which to overwinter.”
(Don Gohmert, State Conservationist, Texas)

The purpose of Coastal Plains Soil and Water Conservation District is to encourage all landowners within its boundaries to voluntarily cooperate with the district in planning and applying conservation programs on non-agricultural land as well as agricultural land.
